The news from Redmond is that Microsoft wants you to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try Vista. They promise it doesn’t really suck any more. Aw c’mon, really. Seriously. It can sit in a room now and … well okay … it might cause a couple of poorly installed windows to pop into the room, but mostly it doesn’t suck like it used to. Honest.

It seems that last night I spoke too soon. Little Psystar is not going to die quietly. They went and got them a law firm that has beaten Apple before. It seems the law firm of Carr & Ferrell beat Apple out of $10M in the Burst.com lawsuit, an out of court settlement in which Apple licensed some technology. Ten million? I’ll bet the next round Master Jobst Fimil has ten million bucks in change under his couch cushions.

Later they won a similar $50M settlement against Microsoft. Come on. Microsoft could spend fifty million on drinks and not miss it.

The difference is that this time Dewey, Cheatham & Howe is representing the defendant. When (not if) Apple hands them their asses, Little Psystar will have to recall all their illegally marketed clones and pay their shyster lawyers.

Now there’s a ghost of a chance that the EULA will go down to defeat. If it does the resultant shit storm will be incredible. The entire structure of Apple’s software business is based on the honor system. EULAs. If Little Psystar and their lawyers successfully undermine that model it will be a very sad day.

In the history of Rip Ragged, I have never called anyone a prick. This could mark a new era.

According to several sources on the innertubes, it isn’t just iPhone 3Gs that are disappearing fast out of the store. Apple is selling iPods and Macs faster than they can make them, too.

Dammit.

Dell is going to sell an mp3 player again. This time they’re going to do it right, though. They’re going to make a Dell version of iTunes and a Dell iTunes Music Store Thingy. I learned about this on Google News. I learned on Daring Fireball that Dell hired Rob Enderle to make sure they get it right.

Duuuuuude.

There were no new iPhone Killers unveiled or announced today.

We already talked about Vista, right?

So this is how Michel Dell is going to rescue his company by trying to somehow make a product that will totally wreak the iPod train? I would say that is a total waste of his razor thin profits. I don’t think he will be calling me for my thoughts on the matter though.

    Fresh peaches and ice cream…yummmm

I suspect if Apple loses the EULA they’ll just go back to making it technologically difficult to install on non-Apple computers… trusted computing chip, or whatever it’s called.

So, if one were to put two copies of Vista back-to-back, would they cancel each other out? Or would that be a Really Bad Thing™?

Please don’t do that. I believe it might create a black hole. More likely it would be greenish-brown and stink, but nevertheless it couldn’t be good.
