Great Blog entry by Preston Gralla, here.

Preston, himself, says absolutely nothing. He quotes somebody else. Here’s the funny thing: he quotes another blog. Okay. He quotes a Harvard Business School blog, but a blog nonetheless.

Apparently dumbasses can go to Harvard Business School and they’ll even be allowed to post to the blog as long as they have IQs in the high 60s. William C. Taylor is the guy Preston quotes.

William doesn’t get it. Billy is of the opinion that even though Steve Jobs’ style has Apple swimming in money and buzz and producing technology that remains futuristic several years into the market, Steve Jobs’ management style isn’t workable.

Preston, Bill, you’re wrong. The fact that nobody is ever likely to replicate the combination of personality, creativity, ambition, and vision in the field of personal technology that is Steve Jobs does not make it an undesirable goal. It makes it impossible. Somebody will come along later this century in some field who matches The Master in pure wonder and magnificence. That individual may or may not be a CEO; that individual may or may not do anything related to computers.

Steve Jobs did not replace Einstein, Galileo, Newton, or DaVinci. He is clearly at the same level of genius. To say that his management style doesn’t work is to ignore that his management style clearly does work.

His management style attracts confident great minds. The mediocre will be drawn to his competitors, and they to them. Great minds want to be held to a high standard. Mediocre minds want to make sure they don’t miss a paycheck.

Steve Jobs attracts the best and the brightest simply because they want the challenge of working for a great man.

Feel free to disagree in the comments. I just LOVE that.

Gun control advocates believe that a woman who has been raped in an alley and strangled with her own pantyhose is morally superior to a woman who explains to the police how her attacker got that forty caliber hole in his forehead.

I read this on a Google News page….

No Public Viewing at Neverland, but Michael Jackson may get laid…

Really. I swear it.

Just in case you though Wilson Pickett was a one trick pony…..

I read about the article on Jim Dalrymple’s new blog http://http://www.loopinsight.com.

Ironically, I read it while I was working my second to last day at Harvard Business School as a contract programmer. Last week, Harvard laid off hundreds of employees and didn’t update the contracts of hundreds of more contract employees like myself. This is all in response to the massive loss that the Harvard endowment experienced because of the economic crisis.

Somehow to me this article in the Harvard Business Review seems like it might be a bit of sour grapes. Perhaps they didn’t invest in Apple and are regretting it now and trying to justify the oversight?
