Mergers and Acquisitions

December 4th, 2009 · 4 Comments · Predictions

Apple has acquired Lala, according to the Washington Post.

Lala is a music streaming company. The story in the Post – which was actually reporting that there was a story about the acquisition in the NY Times – would have you believe that the executives of Lala went to Apple hat in hand, and Apple was only interested in acquiring their engineers.

When did it become journalism to report that another reporter reported something and then report what the other reporter reported? I’m sorry, but if that’s journalism, I’m David Brinkley.

Anyway, the report from the reporter reporting reports from a reporter is that the Apple acquisition could maybe be harmful to existing Lalalalala subscribers because they might not get to keep the deal they have for streaming whatever it is they stream. Or maybe that was the opinion of the reporter reporting reports from the reporter reporting. It wasn’t clear if that was the opinion of the originator of the story or the reporter covering the originator of the story.

Also weird is that the breaking news story and the opinion piece are one (or two) and the same.

I miss real news.

The Open Sourcerers are after Palm for their use of an open source PDF reader in the Palm Pre.

BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I know Apple’s strategy.

1. Remain within the law.

2. Build the whole widget so no single competitor (sic) can challenge your whole business model.

3. Let the competitors cannibalize one another.

4. Be the last man standing.

Within that philosophy it is incumbent on Apple to crush those who challenge it illegally, i.e., Psystar.

Watch. Dell is nearly dead. Sony is looking for ways to cut costs to improve their bottom line. I’ll bet my whole slice of raspberry pie Sony is completely out of the personal computer business before the end of 2010.

HP and Acer will be reduced to selling toy “Windows” computers to Wally World and Radio Shack within two years.

By the end of 2011, the only acknowledged “serious computer” will have an Apple logo on it.

….

The echosphere is hooting about the Google iPhone Killer. It’s all over the place. The search term “google iphone killer” yields a generous helping of 4,450,000 entries. Statistically, several dozen of them will not be idiotic.

The consensus is that the device will appear in early 2010.

It will be better than the iPhone in that it will be open source (easily hacked), and it will have access to more applications (porn) because there will be no central control of content or quality.

It will be worse than the iPhone in that it will be open source (easily hacked), and it will have access to more applications (porn) because there will be no central control of content or quality.

You can safely bet all of the coins under your couch cushions that I won’t be buying one.

Remember Don Reisinger? The guy with the whorish lipstick? He’s still writing. He has advice for Apple. I can’t find it. No. Seriously. Here is the link. I have no idea where the ten frigging ideas are. There’s nothing. I mean, this is worse than Don’s usual stuff, and that take a measure of determination.

If “Merry Christmas” offends you, tough shit.

Merry Christmas.

    A music streaming company, eh?

Two points: someone will scream about monopolization by Apple because of the popularity of iPod and iTunes. Two – the breathless cry of “what does Apple have up it’s sleeve” will choke a black hole out of existence by the blogosphere.

Google’s making a phone? Snore. Too many irons in the fire will bite then in the ass.

    Pass the popcorn please.

    Happy Hanukkah!

Hey, we get 8 days/nights, you get one. Somehow, I think we get the better deal. Oh, plus, we totally get to play with fire.

As for a Google phone, sounds like a Microsoft move to me. Doubt it will happen. If it does, and it’s better than any of the Android phones currently out, expect to see Android developers focusing on the Google beast and letting the other Android phones die.
