Apple Hates Adobe and Google

It must be true. I read it on the internet.

What Bullshit.

Master Jobst Fimil may be many things, but the suggestion that he’s stupid enough to hate viable business partners is beyond absurd.

He sent a message to Adobe. He said, “Fix your buggy piece of shit, Flash, while it still exists anywhere besides ScrewTube.com. Until you do, it isn’t going to pollute the iPad.”

He also sent a message to the rest of us that Google is not Mother Teresa. Au contraire, Google is in business to make money.

That’s different from hating them. The Master was merely setting the record straight.

PDF is the default print format on a Macintosh. Desktop Publishing and WYSIWYG would have been non-starters if not for Post Script, Adobe’s page description algorithm. You might have heard of Post Script. It’s called Acrobat, these days. It’s Apple’s display format.

Your screen image on a Mac running OS X is essentially a PDF file.

Apple hates Adobe? Please.

If you’re gonna chill, chill.

Well, according to the legend (which is probably available somewhere on the Internets), the original plan was to use Adobe’s DisplayPostscript as display format for Mac OSX, since that was what the Next used. But DisplayPostscript was really expensive to license, so while Apple was negotiating about the price with Adobe, they developed their own version of it, based on PDF. And when Adobe refused to lower the price, Apple presented their own system and basically told Adobe to go home and do something that is not suitable to talk about here.

If the legend talks the truth, I don’t think that this historical event has helped the two to build a happy relationship.

But hate…. no. This loving and hating is only in the minds of the pundits that love soap operas and Highlanders. Both Apple and Adobe are grown ups, and perfectly be able to happily steal each others money.

I believe the Display PostScript legend because the OS X print dialog allows saving documents as PDF as opposed to printing. The display would have to be something quite compatible with Display PostScript to allow such a feat. That level of compatibility would have to be closer than legally allowed to be anything but Adobe’s own product.
I’m a blogger, though. It must be noted that my standards for accuracy are based on what I think is funny at the moment.
