In a effort to appease the readers of Rip Ragged between the rants of Rip and the return of the CARS, I present to you, Outpost to Terra (add the Voiceover from Outer Space to that while reading).
Post, rant, converse and overall, have fun. A few disclaimers, don’t be a jackass for no reason. Flagrant abusive violence through commenting is not tolerated here. We WILL ban your happy little ass. It’s our playground, you don’t like the rules, take your ball and go home. There see, just act like adults. Rational, logical adults.
I will post links, videos, articles, pictures and whatnot here frequently and from random subjects to keep the topics flowing. If you have suggestions, why just send them in through the Contact From with the Title of “Outpost to Terra suggestions”. For all of our readers who came from CARS, you know what this is - an attempt to recreate and beat the Terra Post.
Tonight’s Topic:
Umm, I got nothing tonight, so here’s some Robert Plant. Enjoy.
Discuss.

… Help! was the first album I owned. It had just been released. I remember sitting in a big chair and playing it over and over and over until I knew every note and word… It runs very deep with me.
My love of all the Beatles’ work isn’t rational so I can’t choose between them very well. For instance, it is easy to see that the words to “Hello Goodbye” are crap… but so many folk love it as a simple pop song and, why not?
Some suggest that, with the death of Brian Epstein, the lads were no longer restricted in what they could do and either ran off the rails or greatly expanded the range of styles in their music depending on your point of view. But they were doing that when Brian was still alive. Revolver was the breakthrough point and Brian was still there… So I don’t think Brian was holding them back. He did encourage a fairly insane work rate though.
Another canard is that Paul wrote the simple, melodic pop fluff and John did the complex, rocky stuff. That doesn’t stand up. On the White Album it was John trying to come up with things that were as rocky as Paul, Helter Skelter, Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey. And earlier, the fantastic, hard and wild guitar riff in George’s song Taxman was Paul, not John or George. George had been trying all morning to get something and George Martin said “Let’s just give Paul a go before lunch”. He nailed it first try. It was so good George M. tacked it on to the end of the song as well… and then used it again in Tomorrow Never Knows.
um… what were we discussing? … Oh. Yeah. Sorry. Great clip. The fighting between them was just a symptom of them growing up. They were really a “boy band” and they turned into adults and needed their own space. These days they would just slip off and do a solo album and come back but that’s not what happened in those days more’s the shame. They gave us a serious chunk of their lives and a lot of great songs… we really couldn’t ask any more of them.
As for them as people… I am not a big fan of John personally. I think he treated his first wife and Julian very badly. George, despite his tendency to believe random stuff, was the funniest one and the only one I ever saw in the flesh…. I walked straight past him in a shopping centre in Queensland, Australia. By the time I had gathered my wits and worked out that I wanted to say, Thank you, he and his body guard were gone… *sniff*. Ringo was a very nice fellow and an excellent drummer. Paul… possibly a better drummer than Ringo… Possibly a better lead guitarist than George… He needed the competition and assistance from John to get his lyrics up to the highest standard. Lots of good stuff since the split. Lots of stuff that other artists would kill for, but… but… not much that ranks with the stuff produced in the first bloom of genius… as is often the case with genius. But why bemoan the natural flow of inspiration. Just be grateful for what we got.

The Beatles whole was more than the sum of its parts. That’s saying a lot. Each of the Beatles went on to respectable solo careers. That’s rare, particularly in Rock & Roll.

Tommorrow Never Knows is MY FAVORITE Beatles song EVAH. I have an unhealthy love for that song. Something about the hypnotic sound that just permeates from it…*chillbumps*
I am a newbie to the whole “Beatles” phenomena, I didn’t get on the bandwagon until ‘91, when Nirvana hit the music scene and I just wasn’t on board for the whole Grunge/Alternative scene. Too much emoting and not enough talent playing an instrument tended to be my biggest criticism. I’m a classic rock girl. I should be part of the Grunge thing, since it was my generation, but I didn’t really care. Rip is right, all of them had talent, but the 12+ years took a major toll on them. Revolver is the best cover art. Help + Rubber Soul + Revolver = My favorite Albums
